And down again

I posted yesterday about how I was up .4 of a pound at Friday weigh in, after being down a bit the day before.  Friday my weight just seemed to jump up for no reason (maybe fluid retention).

We went out to eat yesterday at Panera Bread.  My Fitness Pal said I ate 1320 calories.  I try to keep my average at  1200 .  For July, I’m currently at an average of about 1150 calories a day.  So, 1320 is higher than an average day, but not a huge calorie day.  Thursday, the day before weigh in, I had eaten exactly 26 points which is my daily minimum on Weight Watchers.

Anyway, even with eating 1320 calories on Friday, which was 34 Weight Watchers Points Plus, I weighed this morning .8 of a pound less today than I weighed yesterday morning.  Had I weighed in today, even after eating out Friday, I would have shown a loss at Weight Watchers.

FWIW, I tend to eat lightly on the Tuesday through Thursday before weigh in.  I eat more on Friday after weigh in (we go out for lunch) and we usually go out at least once on the weekends.  Everything averages out but I do eat more lightly later in the week.  This is not the first time that I have had a jump in weight Friday morning, then eaten out Friday and wake up Saturday to find my weight is down.  I am wondering if I would do better by eating a bit more evenly during the week. I am going to try to do that more this week and try to still eat out, but still eat a bit more over Tuesday through Thursday.  I may have to do some trial and error on this over the next few week.  To keep the same average calories eaten, I will need to eat a little less overall on days that I eat out.  I think I can manage that though.

Friday Weigh In

This weigh in was…in a word…annoying.  I was up .4 pounds to 164 pounds.  I mean, of course, no one likes a loss.  What made this one annoyed was the unjustified nature of the loss.  I had a good week overall.  I ate 13 calories less a day than I did last week (so within a 100 calories of last week’s calories).  I also burned about 24 more calories  a day (according to Fitbit).  So, overall, this week was really about the same as last week, just a tiny bit better.  Last week I lost 1.6 pounds.  Now, when I have a large loss like that (yes, that is a large loss for me) then the next week is usually much smaller.  Based upon where I was a couple of days ago, I was expecting to lose about half a pound.  Then, this morning I weighed myself before going to Weight Watchers and saw that my weight was up.  I think it was fluid retention and will likely be gone in a day or two.  Still.  I was just put out by the whole thing.

On a happier note, after going to lunch at Panera Bread, we went to see the orthopedic surgeon.  My husband had his follow up appointment after shoulder surgery two weeks ago (went well) and I had my last follow up appointment on my knee and trabecular bone injury.  I’ve found over the last few weeks that the trabecular bone injury hasn’t gone away, but is better.  The knee itself seems to be doing well.  I told him that I was using the elliptical at the Y and the weight machines, which he didn’t have an issue with.  We talked some more about walking and he said I could do walking if it didn’t hurt me, but he reminded me that the elliptical, exercise bike, and swimming would be lower impact.

My plan is to get back to exercise, to start using the exercise bike consistently and go use the elliptical a couple of days a week and continue working on strengthening my legs.

Back to the Y

Finally made it back to the Y what with being so busy and my husband having shoulder surgery.

I did 10 minutes on a Precor elliptical then did the weight machines, mostly focusing on the lower body.  I am supposed to see the orthopedic surgeon for a follow up this Friday, so I wanted to see how my knee and leg reacted to the activity.  It was fine at the Y.  I noticed a very small amount of pain under my left kneecap later in the day.  It was really more that I could feel something, rather than actual pain.  Anyway, by this morning it was gone, so I think it all went pretty well.

So far, this week is relatively good from the food standpoint.  I’m within my points, but I had a couple of higher calorie days — the larger one was 1587 per MyFitnessPal from going out to Red Lobster.  We also ate out yesterday when we ran an errand which means 3 days of eating out this week.  Still, my average calories per day is about 1200, so I’m happy enough with it.  I’m down about .2 of a pound this week.  I don’t think this Friday will be a huge loss, but hoping it will be an OK one.

Friday Weigh In

Finally was able to get back to attend a meeting today.  Last Friday, my husband was having shoulder surgery, so I just ran in and weighed and couldn’t stay for the meeting.  The Friday before that was July 4th.  I weighed in on another day, but didn’t go to the meeting.

I was very happy with the weigh in today:

ww 7-18

I lost 1.6 pounds, to get to 163.6 pounds.  I was actually a little surprised it was that good, but I should have had better losses the last couple of weeks (according to my Fitbit) so maybe it was just getting caught up.  I did have a really good week with food.  Since my husband had surgery, we didn’t eat out like we normally do.  We did bring in Subway once and I had indulged with a 12″ sandwich, a cookie and chips.  Something I rarely do.  Still, I did really well the rest of the week.

It was sort of interesting.  I was very busy this week and I found that I just didn’t think to eat.  I would suddenly realize it was late in the evening and I hadn’t eaten in hours.  That isn’t like me.  Normally I like to eat every few hours.  But, I find that when I’m busy, I tend to just not think that much about eating and don’t get very hungry.  I do know that when I do get hungry when I’m busy I have to be careful.  It is easy to go for the most convenient food, not necessarily the lowest calories.  But, this week I managed to do OK on that anyway.

I am getting close to an important milestone for me.  When I went back to Weight Watchers a few years ago, the lowest I got to was 162 pounds in January, 2012.  I was doing very well and then we were getting ready to move, buying a new house and actually moving and I just threw the eating plan by the wayside and regained back to the mid-190s.  So I’ve sent basically the last year trying to get back to where I was when I weighed 162 pounds.  Well, I’m almost there.  I really look forward to that, so I can finally get to where I’m losing “new” weight.  (I’ve lost it before, of course, but not in a very long time.)

Last Friday Weigh In

Well, my last Friday weigh in is a little late.  Like half a week.  But, it wasn’t because it was a bad weigh in.  It was fine:

I lost .8 pounds, losing the .2 pounds I had gained the week before and I weighed in at 165.2 pounds.  And, I been weighing in at my normal time – about 3 1/2 hours after I weighed in – I feel sure I would have lost about a pound.

The reason I weighed in so early that morning (before 7:00 a.m.) was because my husband was having shoulder surgery that morning.  I dropped his off at the surgery center, then hurried over to weigh in (the Weight Watchers center was only a few minutes away), and then hurried back over to the surgery center to be with him before he had his surgery.

The surgery went well, but there was a lot of work done on his shoulder and so he really can’t do much right now at all.  My mother had been here for a visit for a week before he had surgery, and then he had his surgery.  So, with all that and various other crazily busy stuff going on, I just never got around to posting my weigh in.

Things are starting to get a little more normal, so I should be back on a more normal schedule.  I haven’t been doing the exercise bike or the Y.

The one good thing is that foodwise I’m doing OK.  I’ve been drinking more Cherry Coke Zero than usual (I had given it up for green tea), which I don’t think is optimal.  On the other hand, in terms of calories I’ve been OK.  Busy enough that I haven’t thought that much about eating.  I tend to find that when busy I have days where I hardly eat anything and then realize I need to eat something before I go to bed.  I did bring Subway in the other day and that was higher calorie than most days, but every other day this week has been fine.  I don’t know how I’ll do this Friday when I weigh in since my calorie burn has been super low.  But, I’m happy enough that I’ve stayed OK with the eating.
