Overall, from a food standpoint, this was a good week. I averaged 1164 calories a day which is in line with my year to date average of 1174 (I aim for around 1200 a day so that is fine). I burned a little bit fewer calories a day so my calorie deficit was smaller per Fitbit, but should have led to a loss of around .6 pounds (that is usually a little overstated so I would expect to lose a little less than that.
But, despite all of that, I was up .2 of a pound to end up at 164.2 pounds. That seriously irritated me since just a couple of days ago I had been down a full pound from where I was last Friday. I don’t really feel that I’m actually up .2 pounds of real weight gain given that (and I ate well the last couple of days). In some ways it bothers me to more to show an undeserved weight gain than it does to show and actual, earned weight gain.
While I think this is basically water retention (I’m still working out how to avoid the water retention that seems to so often happen on Fridays), I do recognize that I had a very inactive week which was part of a very inactive month, mostly due to external events. I think had I had a more active week I probably would have shown a small loss.
The good thing is that it will be easier from this point to get back more into activity. Some of the things keeping me so busy are past now, and others are getting easier to deal with. My husband is still recovering from his rotator cuff surgery so that does make it harder. Today, after going to the Weight Watchers meeting and then to lunch (Sweet Tomatoes), we went with our son to buy furniture for him to move into an apartment at college in a couple of weeks. I imagine I will busy during the next couple of weeks getting everything for him to move into his first apartment. Still, I think I’ll be able to at least ride the exercise bike more often.
My real goal for the upcoming week is to continue eating as I’ve been eating but to up the calorie burn by at least another 100 to 200 calories a day through activity. I’ll post in the next day or so about July overall and about my goals for August.
