Recovering after Mommy Makeover!

11 days I had my tummy tuck and breast lift (together called a Mommy makeover) and had some more cholesterol deposits on my eyes removed.  I had a rough start to my recovery but am doing well now.

The night of surgery I spent at the hospital and everything went fine.  The doctor came by in the morning and looked at everything and removed the drains from my breasts but left in 2 drains for the tummy tuck.  Even though I had Exparel, which deadens for a few days the muscles inside, the tummy tuck still hurt more than I expected.  The breast lift never hurt at all.  As soon as I was able to pee on my own, I went home. The hardest part was that I had to walk hunched over and my neck really hurt a lot.  In evening, I was walking around for a couple of minutes every hour or so and I suddenly just started throwing up.  I threw up 3 times that night which was really painful.  I did call the doctor and he said it wasn’t unusual but he had me come in the following morning.  He looked at everything and said everything looked OK.  He changed my antinausea medication and added a muscle relaxant for my neck.

I did found out that he removed 6.362 pounds from the surgery.  He removed 100cc from my left breast because it was a little larger and he made both breasts similar.  Most everything else removed was from the tummy tuck and liposuction.  I weighed 147 right before surgery, to that would make my new base line about 140.6 pounds.

3 days after surgery I weighed just wearing my bandages and my drains.  I weighed 159.7 pounds!  Also my natural waistline was 4 inches larger than before surgery.  When I went to see the doctor a few days later he said that was normal.  It was all swelling from the surgery.  He said that I would lose all of that over the next 3 weeks or so.

Over the next several days I slowly got better.  The main pain was when I would cough or would get up out of my recliner.  The muscles were just really sore.  I slept pretty well in the recliner and didn’t have too much trouble getting around once I started the muscle relaxant.  Every day, I noticed that my weight was going down a little bit.

A couple of days ago, I realized that I really didn’t have any pain from my surgery any more.  I still have my drains and the main pain is from the drains.  My muscles aren’t sore any more so coughing or standing up doesn’t hurt any more.

I am not totally standing upright but am almost upright.  As a result I don’t have much neck pain any more.  I still get tired easily.  When I stand up I do feel pulling in the abdominal area just like my skin has been stretched (which it has been)!  But, that isn’t really painful.

This morning I finally got down to 146.4 pounds and my natural waistline (which is several inches above my incision) is back what it was before surgery.  I still have about 6 pounds of swelling that needs to go away.

So far I am really happy with the results.  The breast lift is perfect and I am entirely happy.  My incision for the tummy tuck is huge.  It does entirely across the front and extends on the side almost to the back.  It is a huge incision, but the results are great.  I will post some pics of the tummy tuck once my swelling has gone down some more and the incision isn’t so raw looking.

I am supposed to go back on Tuesday to see doctor and hope the drains come out then.  The removal of the cholesterol deposits went great.  He also looked at a bump I had at the end of my left eye and it was a small cyst which he removed.  All that recovery went fine.
