Surgery Update

It has been 6 days since I had the surgery that I posted about a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to post an update.  Things have gone well, although this recovery has actually been more painful than either my previous surgeries.

I had surgery last Monday.  Basically there were two parts to the surgery.  First, I was having some facial surgery.  I was having a revision to my right eye lift to remove some additional skin.  While I was overall happy with my results I felt I had a little more skin drooping on my right eye than my left.  My surgeon had indicated that my brow was a little lower on the right eye (that is, it started that way) and removing any more skin in the initial surgery would have resulted in too long of a scar.  So, I have known for months that I would likely want to have this revision done.

Additionally I had a couple of final cholesterol deposits removed on both eyes near my nose.  I had a number of these deposits previously removed, but they can’t be done all in one surgery.

This is how my right eye looked in April.

May Weigh In

I weighed in for May today.  I was down .8 pounds to 147.6 pounds. That puts me back in free lifetime range for Weight Watchers (not more than 2 pounds above my goal weight of 146).  I was very unhappy with my April weigh in which was my only one above 148 pounds since I got back to free lifetime status in June of 2015.

I had a really good week this past week.  I particularly wanted to do well and weigh in this week since I know I will have some temporary weight gain after my revision surgery due to the upper abdominal liposuction being done.  I am not sure how long that will last.  It lasted 2 weeks with the tummy tuck.  I would expect it to be shorter for this, but I probably won’t be ready to weigh in the first Saturday after surgery.

I do feel I am back on track eating. During the time I was off track, I did track consistently.  But, I was going over on both calories and points.  There were always reasons…but they mostly weren’t particularly good reasons.   But, it became easier and easier to just go over and say I would get on track at the next meal, or the next day, or even the next week.  It was a real reminder to me as to how easy it can be to get out of one developed good habit and go back to an old not so good routine.

Maybe I needed that reminder.  Maybe I needed to remember what it was like to not keep careful control over what I eat.  Maybe over the last couple of years I started to get a little over confident.  I mean on the outside I said the right things.  But, I think on the inside I got a little over confident and thought I wouldn’t really gain weight again.  This has reminded me that I can get off track and gain weight if I don’t follow good habits.

Pre-Op Update

I went in for my pre-op appointment before my upcoming surgical revision that I posted about the other day.  I like to post about these things for those who might be considering surgery or want to know more about the process.  As I’ve said before, overall I am very happy with the surgery that I had.  When I had surgery, though, I knew that revisions were not uncommon and I knew that I might need upper abdominal liposuction.

The pre-op appointment went well.  The surgeon clearly explained what he was doing and we talked about the specific areas that he was to address and what my concerns are.  The choice of surgeon is an important one and I strongly advocate researching thoroughly any surgeons being considered and making sure the surgeon is board certified as a plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  I posted more about that here.   I did a lot of research on my surgeon and have felt very comfortable with the work he has done on me.

We first talked about my facial revision.  We discussed in detail the area of excess skin on my upper right eye.  He is going to remove some additional skin and improve the scar appearance.  He is also going to remove another cholesterol deposits near my left eye.

We also talked out how people are not perfectly symmetrical in appearance.  He says it is common that people don’t really pay that much attention to it until after surgery.  It is after surgery that many of us really scrutinize our appearance and notice small asymmetry that was never noticed before. Surgery Update and Upcoming Surgery Revision and Liposuction

I mentioned in an earlier post so that I will soon be having some additional revision surgery related to my prior plastic surgery.  I will be having that surgery in 2 weeks.  I wanted to update about my surgery and this planned revision.  Overall, I am extremely happy with the surgery that I had last year.  One year ago I had facial surgery.  I had a upper and lower eyelid surgery, a facelift, temporal browlift, and removal of cholesterol deposits around my eyes.  Overall, I am very happy with the results.  Below is a side by side picture of me on my birthday a couple of weeks ago compared to my birthday last year shortly before surgery.

I was almost shocked when I looked at these photos side by side.  I’ve gotten used to the new face and I had forgotten how big a change exists from then to now.  Just looking at the current photo (as well as looking in the mirror), I am so happy with the result.

Then, in July I had a tummy tuck and breast lift.  I have also been extremely happy with that surgery. Here is a side by side photo of my tummy pre-surgery and then a photo taken last October.  Again, you can see there is a huge difference.

I will leave to your imagination the changes with the breast lift, but those are just as dramatic. [Read more…]

March April Goal Update

I forgot to post on goals at the end of March, probably because I did so poorly during March.  So, this covers March and April.  My two primary goals are to cook more food at home and to start going to the Y and work on strength training.

I did terrible on both of these during March.  In March I ate out too much and ate too much processed foods.  And, I wasn’t active at all.  April was marginally better.  I cooked more at home.  My average daily calories eaten were 240 calories a day less than in March (and March had been better than February).  January was my best month this year on eating, but April was pretty good despite my being up 1.4 pounds at my April weigh in.  I would like to cut it about 50 calories a day, but overall I was happy with it.

While I am doing more eating at home and less processed foods, I haven’t done in freezer meals during April.  I have a couple of things that I like to make for quick meals — a turkey chili and some chicken/bean wraps — but I haven’t done them.  This is on my list for May. [Read more…]
