July Weigh In

I weighed in today and was unsurprised to weigh in at 150.6 pounds, up 3.8 pounds from last month.  As I posted, this is primarily related to post-liposuction swelling made super worse because of me being sick for a week and a half.  I saw my doctor a couple of days ago and he assured me that most of this is swelling, not fat.  I am actually down 3 pounds from where I was at the start of the week.  At one point I was up 7 pounds!

I did overeat while I was sick.  And, that on top of inactivity didn’t help.  From looking at Fitbit and MyFitnessPal, the true weight gain from that should be about 1.5 pounds.  That may be off a bit, but I think not by a whole lot.  Overall, I had a reasonably good week eating this week.  I was a bit more active and even used the treadmill.  I had a small calorie deficit for the week. Swelling Update (Post Liposuction)

I went in today for a follow up appointment with my plastic surgeon post eyelid revision and liposuction.  I had posted a couple of times about the huge amount of swelling I had the last few days.  Basically as of 3 or 4 days ago, I was up 7 pounds!  Yes, I know that some of it (from a pound to pound and a half) is actual weight gain.  I was sick for about 10 days and didn’t move much during that period and ate differently and ate more.  So, yes, some gain was normal.

But, on Monday I noticed that I seemed to have huge upper abdominal swelling.  At the worst my waist line up almost 4 inches from what it was last week.  Since then, I went back to wearing the medical grade compression garment and some of the swelling has gone down.  I’m down 3 1/2 pounds from Monday.

But, I was eager to discuss this with my surgeon.  At the absolute worst moment, I had this fear that I had overeaten and that I had new fat in my upper abdomen and didn’t have swelling.  In my worst thoughts, I worried I had totally undone the liposuction by overeating that week I was sick.   [Read more…]

Taking Stock at Mid-Year

Yes, it is halfway through 2017.  Actually, it seems like the year has just begun.  So, where am I at this point?

This last 6 months hasn’t really been great.  From a weight standpoint, this has been the most difficult period since I got back to goal in the summer of 2015. At my December, 2016 weigh in, I was at 142.8 pounds.  In June, I was at 146.8 pounds.  My Weight Watchers goal weight is 146 and I am free lifetime so long as I don’t weigh above 148 pounds.  Since I got back to goal, I’ve been above that mark exactly once.  That was in April when I weighed in at 148.4 pounds.  Since, then I’ve gone down.  But, I am expecting to be above 148 when I weigh in this Saturday.

And, the weight gain has been for predictable reasons.  Part of it was overeating.  I have been up and down the entire year.  January was a good month and I weighed in at 141.6 in February.  I think that led to some over-confidence and lack of focus on eating.  And, I was up to 147 in March.  I was more careful for awhile then went off the rails and was above 148 in April.  I then got it together the last 2 weigh ins, but overate when I was sick for about 10 days and I still have swelling from my surgery in May.

My goals at the start of the year were to cook more at home and to rejoin the Y and start strength training again.  I’ve done some of the cooking at home.  I get maybe a C on that one.  I am cooking more at home, but not as much as I planned.  The bigger problem has been that some of my food choices haven’t been great.  I am toying with the idea of signing up for one of those meal preparation services for maybe 3 dinners a week where they send you the ingredients and you cook the food.  This would replace one of our dining out times during the week which I think would help with the eating and staying within my calorie/points goals. Overeating When Sick (and an Update)

I haven’t posted since my mid-June weigh in.  And, that is because I’ve been sick most of the time.  At the time I was glad I seemed back on track and I had a good weigh in.  And, the next several days were fine.  I was starting to get more active.  I added steps every day and was getting ready to start going to the Y to work on strength training after a week or so of steps.

Then, on Wednesday evening (two Wednesdays ago) I started feeling bad.  I had gone out during the day and had been in a building that was freezing.  I never really feel that cold causes sickness, but I had to wonder this time.  That evening my throat started hurting and I started aching all over.  Now, I don’t usually get sick.  In the last 5 years, I’ve maybe had a sore throat or cold a few times and usually it lasted a day or two.  And, even then it is usually something where I just feel bad but I can mostly follow my usual routine.

Well, not this time.  Within a day I was basically living in the bedroom.  I wasn’t sleeping all day, but sitting upright in my desk chair was out of the question.  And, I didn’t feel like doing anything.  I basically spent several days just using my iPad in bed or watching TV.  And..well…eating.
