Overeating When Sick (and an Update)

I haven’t posted since my mid-June weigh in.  And, that is because I’ve been sick most of the time.  At the time I was glad I seemed back on track and I had a good weigh in.  And, the next several days were fine.  I was starting to get more active.  I added steps every day and was getting ready to start going to the Y to work on strength training after a week or so of steps.

Then, on Wednesday evening (two Wednesdays ago) I started feeling bad.  I had gone out during the day and had been in a building that was freezing.  I never really feel that cold causes sickness, but I had to wonder this time.  That evening my throat started hurting and I started aching all over.  Now, I don’t usually get sick.  In the last 5 years, I’ve maybe had a sore throat or cold a few times and usually it lasted a day or two.  And, even then it is usually something where I just feel bad but I can mostly follow my usual routine.

Well, not this time.  Within a day I was basically living in the bedroom.  I wasn’t sleeping all day, but sitting upright in my desk chair was out of the question.  And, I didn’t feel like doing anything.  I basically spent several days just using my iPad in bed or watching TV.  And..well…eating. June Weigh In

I weighed in for June today at 146.8 pounds, down .8 pounds since May.  I have finally lost most of the fluid retention from surgery. After surgery in May I was up over 10 pounds from my May weigh in!  I was really happy about this weigh in for a couple of reasons.

First, June is the 2 year anniversary of me getting back to free lifetime.  I certainly am glad to be there now.  I am still up several pounds from my low weight last August.  My next goal is to get back to where I was then.  Still, I am finally going in the right direction.

Second, I’ve been able to put together 2 really good weeks.  A big part of why I haven’t made a lot of progress the past few months is that I wasn’t putting together good weeks.  Earlier in the year, I had a couple of bad months (February and March) where I ended up not having a calorie deficit and basically gained almost 5 and a half pounds.  Since then, I struggled to lose that weight because I wasn’t consistently doing well.  I would have a great week and then a bad week.  So, putting together good weeks and staying consistent was important to me.  For 3 of the last 4 weeks, I have had a good week and per Fitbit, I had a calorie deficit.  Even for the week where I didn’t have a deficit I was really close to being even for that week. Surgery Update

It has been 6 days since I had the surgery that I posted about a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to post an update.  Things have gone well, although this recovery has actually been more painful than either my previous surgeries.

I had surgery last Monday.  Basically there were two parts to the surgery.  First, I was having some facial surgery.  I was having a revision to my right eye lift to remove some additional skin.  While I was overall happy with my results I felt I had a little more skin drooping on my right eye than my left.  My surgeon had indicated that my brow was a little lower on the right eye (that is, it started that way) and removing any more skin in the initial surgery would have resulted in too long of a scar.  So, I have known for months that I would likely want to have this revision done.

Additionally I had a couple of final cholesterol deposits removed on both eyes near my nose.  I had a number of these deposits previously removed, but they can’t be done all in one surgery.

This is how my right eye looked in April.

Pre-Op Update

I went in for my pre-op appointment before my upcoming surgical revision that I posted about the other day.  I like to post about these things for those who might be considering surgery or want to know more about the process.  As I’ve said before, overall I am very happy with the surgery that I had.  When I had surgery, though, I knew that revisions were not uncommon and I knew that I might need upper abdominal liposuction.

The pre-op appointment went well.  The surgeon clearly explained what he was doing and we talked about the specific areas that he was to address and what my concerns are.  The choice of surgeon is an important one and I strongly advocate researching thoroughly any surgeons being considered and making sure the surgeon is board certified as a plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  I posted more about that here.   I did a lot of research on my surgeon and have felt very comfortable with the work he has done on me.

We first talked about my facial revision.  We discussed in detail the area of excess skin on my upper right eye.  He is going to remove some additional skin and improve the scar appearance.  He is also going to remove another cholesterol deposits near my left eye.

We also talked out how people are not perfectly symmetrical in appearance.  He says it is common that people don’t really pay that much attention to it until after surgery.  It is after surgery that many of us really scrutinize our appearance and notice small asymmetry that was never noticed before. Surgery Update and Upcoming Surgery Revision and Liposuction

I mentioned in an earlier post so that I will soon be having some additional revision surgery related to my prior plastic surgery.  I will be having that surgery in 2 weeks.  I wanted to update about my surgery and this planned revision.  Overall, I am extremely happy with the surgery that I had last year.  One year ago I had facial surgery.  I had a upper and lower eyelid surgery, a facelift, temporal browlift, and removal of cholesterol deposits around my eyes.  Overall, I am very happy with the results.  Below is a side by side picture of me on my birthday a couple of weeks ago compared to my birthday last year shortly before surgery.

I was almost shocked when I looked at these photos side by side.  I’ve gotten used to the new face and I had forgotten how big a change exists from then to now.  Just looking at the current photo (as well as looking in the mirror), I am so happy with the result.

Then, in July I had a tummy tuck and breast lift.  I have also been extremely happy with that surgery. Here is a side by side photo of my tummy pre-surgery and then a photo taken last October.  Again, you can see there is a huge difference.

I will leave to your imagination the changes with the breast lift, but those are just as dramatic. [Read more…]
